Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran has sold her famous New York City penthouse, earning $1.5 million more than she originally asked.
Corcoran, 76, put the luxury apartment on the market in May. Reports say she found a buyer within just one day. The sale is now official, with a final price of $13.5 million.
On paper, this means Corcoran made a $3.5 million profit. She bought the home in 2015 for $10 million. However, she spent about $2 million renovating it, so her real profit is closer to $1.5 million.
Even so, this is a big moment for Corcoran, whose connection to the apartment goes back long before she owned it.
She first saw the Upper East Side penthouse in 1992, when she was working as a messenger. She delivered a letter to the unit’s resident and was immediately impressed by the home.
Renovations and Family Life in the NYC Penthouse
Corcoran says she spent at least $2 million renovating. During the work, she and her daughter, Kate, who was 10 at the time, sometimes slept outside on the terrace.
The two-story apartment had 11 rooms and amazing views of Central Park and the New York City skyline. Renovations included flipping the upstairs and downstairs layouts, turning the greenhouse into an indoor/outdoor dining space, and adding a chef’s kitchen.
Moving On After Nearly a Decade
After nearly ten years, the apartment no longer worked for Corcoran and her husband, Bill Higgins, 80. The curved staircase was hard for him to navigate, so they started looking for a single-story apartment nearby.
Although leaving her beloved penthouse was bittersweet, Corcoran is ready to move on. She is now focused on finding her next dream home in the same neighborhood.
