For $699,000, you could own a piece of New York City history in one of its most special neighborhoods.

These charming Tudor-style buildings were built way back in 1921 by Thomas Healy, an Irish immigrant who arrived in New York when he was just 15.
Pomander Walk looks so perfect, it’s almost like something from a movie set.

There are currently 61 homes here, though some have been combined over the years to create bigger spaces. Originally, the plan was to build one giant building, but instead, it became 27 three-story condos.

It turns out the first developer ran out of money to build that big residential building, according to real estate expert Shankman.
New York City recognized Pomander Walk as a landmark in 1982.

You’ll find this secret spot tucked away between 94th and 95th Street, hidden behind an iron gate on both sides. The whole neighborhood was inspired by the setting of an old English play.

The play, also called “Pomander Walk,” was written by Louis N. Parker and first shown in 1910. Its single set showed a scene facing the River Thames in Chiswick, West London.
And guess what? Pomander Walk is only about three blocks from Central Park!
After its exterior got a makeover in 2009, Pomander Walk even won an award for “Building Rehabilitation” from a group called Landmark West, which focuses on architecture and culture.
Right now, there are two one-bedroom, one-bathroom units for sale, and you even have the option to combine them!
“This specific building has three floors, and the owners own both the second and third floor,” Shankman explained. “Right now, they’re separate one-bedroom apartments, but people have combined them in other buildings to create a bigger home.”
The same family has owned these two units for decades.
According to Streeteasy, a real estate website, only six units in Pomander Walk have been rented out since 2009, showing how rarely these homes become available.
Both units for sale have almost identical layouts.
Each unit is about 500 square feet and includes one bedroom with closets, a bathroom, a living room, and an eat-in kitchen, according to Homes.com.
Homes for sale in this neighborhood are pretty rare.
StreetEasy reports that one unit was sold quietly in July without being publicly listed. The last sale that was recorded was in 2023 – a two-bedroom unit that went for $900,000.
It truly looks different from any other neighborhood in Manhattan.
Each building has its own entrance, adding to the charm.
“It’s just very unique, like something out of a storybook,” Shankman said.
