HOBOKEN — A New York City staple is crossing the Hudson. Lenwich, one of Manhattan’s long-running sandwich shops, is opening its first New Jersey location right by Hoboken’s busy transit hub.
The shop has signed a lease for a 2,500-square-foot space at 95 Hudson Street, in a deal arranged by Atlantic Coastal Real Estate and GRID Real Estate. When it opens, Hoboken residents can expect Lenwich’s signature menu of hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, and fresh salads.
Lenwich has been serving New Yorkers since 1989, with 14 locations across Manhattan and even a handful in South Korea. Its biggest claim to fame? The hot pastrami sandwich stacked with corned beef, melted Swiss, coleslaw, and thousand island dressing — a cult favorite among deli lovers.
Chris Conway of Atlantic Coastal Real Estate, who represented Lenwich in the deal, said the move was a no-brainer. “I’m honored to bring a legendary New York City brand into New Jersey,” Conway said, adding that Hoboken and Jersey City feel like a natural extension of the borough lifestyle.
The landlord was represented by GRID Real Estate’s Bobby Antonicello. Atlantic Coastal confirmed that Lenwich is already eyeing additional New Jersey locations in Jersey City’s Exchange Place, Fort Lee, and Edgewater.
For Hoboken, Lenwich’s arrival also means fresh life for a long-vacant property. The space has sat empty for more than five years, despite being steps from the PATH station. At one point, it was even slated to become the city’s first cannabis dispensary, but that plan fell apart after the operator was hit by management scandals.
Construction on the new Lenwich hasn’t started yet, and no opening date has been announced. But if you’re a sandwich fan in Hoboken, the countdown is officially on.
